About the competition
The Elite Aerobatic Formula competition consists of two parts:
The competition flights are performed over two or three days:
Aerobatics against Time (AAT)
During Aerobatics against Time pilots must perform 6 - 7 maneuvers in a unique sequence. The sequences are revealed to the pilots at the end of the training day. The sequences must include a minimum of:
The pilot’s score is based on a total time recorded between start and finish, and by adding penalties for every maneuver error.
Aerobatics Freestyle (AF)
The sequence shall consist of a freestyle sequence within 3 minutes, plus/ minus 1 second. There is no limitation to the maneuvers and it is entirely at the discretion of the pilot. The use of smoke is required for the purpose of impressiveness.
The pilot’s score is based on impressiveness and precision (originality, accuracy, quality and difficulty) – the performance is judged by scorers. These two scores are added together to form the “time bonus”, which is deducted from the total Aerobatics Freestyle time. The pilot is also penalized for the “elapsed time”, mistakes when using smoke and height errors at the gates of start/finish.
The total time is an aggregate total of the AAT program and that of the AF program. The best pilot is determined by the shortest aggregate time.
