Robert Eric Fry, Born Auckland, New
Zealand February 14, 1952. 33 year ex resident in Japan, Businessman,
ex
professional yachtsman, keen aerobatics pilot.
|
Robert obtained his Pilots licence in 1992
while in San Diego for the Americas Cup Yacht races working for the
Nippon Challenge Americas Cup Team as sailor and Base Camp "Shore
Boss". He also built a plane there which he flew off much of his time
while still a student pilot. In 1993 while in New Zealand for a
training camp with the Nippon Challenge crew, he took an aerobatics
course to sharpen his flying skills. He caught the aerobatics bug and
in 1995 went to Tajima, Japan to watch the Breitling Masters
competition. There he saw flights that he had never imagined would be
possible and thought that one day he would like to be able to perform
some
of the manouvres too. Of the great competitors there the one that
impressed him the most was Jurgis Kairys. Several years later (1999)
they were to meet by chance in Chongju, Korea where Robert had flown in
his Super Decathlon, leading a group of 5 aircraft from Japan to
participate in the Airshow there. Since that meeting Robert has been
helping Jurgis with the organisation and coordination of Jurgis'
flights in Japan and recently other countries and also has been to
Lithuania several times to participate in flights with Jurgis flying
his Yak 52 and Yak50.
Rob now lives in NZ and flies the Su29 and Yak 50 in the unusual
"AIR BANDITS"
formation routines. This concept is designed by Jurgis to have an
exciting and refreshingly different style of formation shows using
different aircraft.
